I was excited to see Snow Buntings today, but most of the time they were in flight or too far across a snow-covered field to see them clearly.

Then one landed near me.

We feed our dog twice a day (because she can’t be trusted to stop at a reasonable amount of food), and my god, I can’t miss her dinner time because her eyes start to bore holes into my soul 45 minutes ahead of time.

I caught this green heron as it was about to scratch itself.

I think it's telling me talk to the hand lol

Live long and prosper is a good one too!

What would be your caption?

I'd add this is not just about humanists.

RT @mkirschenbaum

If humanists see their primary role in #AI as “debunking” “hype” (two words that figure prominently in the discourse) we’ll be conceding our own irrelevance. Historicize, yes, and sure, critique away—but we have to have an alternative vision too, not just the twitter pushback.

Spotted a few days ago – those pictures were taken from the inside of our house. That poor weasel has the wrong color for this weather and is now easy prey. Things are not going well for weasels https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-018-26057-5/ Thanks to @TimHofmeester on Twitter for identifying it (we thought it might be a stout) and for the link to the Nature paper. His area of research – human and wildlife coexistence – is very important to us. Here's his website https://www.hofmeester-natuur.nl/

Northern Flicker! Love the brilliant yellow on their shaft and under their wings.

This is gonna be one of those "pretty but deadly" situations huh?

Arterial and major residential streets seem fine so far, but lower traffic streets are just starting to get slick. Keep an eye on the temperature; we aren't far from skating rink territory in .

This is my favourite Long-tailed tit photo from yesterday. It's a truly beautiful bird, it is small with its notable long tail. This bird was clinging to a wintered shrub. But I really liked the mottled light effect that the woods some 15 metres behind the bird, created. Between the bird and the wood is a stream.

Passed by this beauty on my walk to work this morning—just across the street from History Nebraska. A Cooper’s hawk, I think?

Still chuckling on at the message on my office neighbor’s whiteboard this morning. “All fax, no printer.”

There are very few birds around this winter so I was excited to see this little acrobat: a White-breasted Nuthatch. It searched for sunflower seeds the chickadees were hiding behind the loose bark of the White Birches.

Northern cardinal pausing for a minute in our neighbors’ pear tree. She hits up our feeders a lot, but she always seems to see me getting my camera ready, no matter how far away I am…
